Decompress files that have been deleted

I have movie files that have been deleted and recovered. I'm assuming I have recovered the right ones given that they are the only .mpg files the recovery software is picking up. They are now all 544Kb files and media players i have tried will not open them (including VLC). Is there something I can try to do to decompress these files?

No compression ration will compress a movie file down to Kbs, unless of course the video was originally very small.

It doesn't look like the recovery worked, as those .mpg files should be much larger, in the x 10 or x 100 MBs range.

File compression done by Windows will automatically decompress when the file is opened. File compression by other utilities, eg WinZip, will compress the file and give it a specific file extension, eg for WinZip the file extension would be .zip

I do not think that/those .mpg files are compressed. More likely they are just fragments.
