Computer help forum: Highlighted text issue

Highlighted text issue

This just started last Friday. I highlight text, URL in address bar of browser, text in email, etc.., I then type and expect the old highlighted text to be deleted and replaced with newly entered text. Been doing this for years and now all of a sudden it just inserts my cursor at the far left of the highlighted text.

Is there a setting that might have gotten changed? Is it a security update? Win XP SP3 Dell D620 laptop.

using the Delete key on the keyboard. That leaves the cursor in the address bar ready for my new address.

But just a thought. Has the "Insert" key on your keyboard been pressed? In word processing that Insert key causes strange effects.

Other than the insert key I don't really have any other suggestions.

Does this happen in just one browser, (which one), or does it happen in all browsers, eg Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, etc? Does it happen in applications like Word, or any other word processor?

If it occurs in just a browser, and just one type of browser, then my suspicions would then fall on to a browser Add-on of some sort. There's no easy way to check this, except to disable all add-ons, (including toolbars), test, then add back in one at a time, restart the browser, and test again.

Hopefully others here will have better ideas.
