Setting up BIOS after replacing CMOS battery

I have a Toshiba Qosimio G35-AV600 running WIN XP OS. It has two SATA Drives. It also has a finger sensing unit which was used to run the laptop. It was working fine and then one day when powering up, the Qosimio LOGO would came up and then a screen that said PASSWORD = followed by a flashing cursor.
I had not used a password in the past, always the finger sensing unit, so I originally thought that it was asking for a HDD password; however after removing both hard drives (one at a time and power up after each SATA removal)until both were removed. When powering up it still presented a screen that said PASSWORD = followed by a flashing cursor..
I then disconnected the CMOS battery for an hour and then re-connected it.
1 -- I understand that now all of the BIOS settings have been lost and,
2 -- Therefore I assume that the need for a password to boot has been removed, and
3 -- I do not know how to reset the BIOS settings.
What is the proper procedure for setting up the BIOS in this situation.
Thanks, Bill
