Iphoto backup to external drive not keeping original dates

I am backing up my iphoto library by dragging the events into an external drive. When I pull the photos over i notice that all the dates are 1-29-09

What is the way to keeping the original shot dates on backup?

Seems right. Finder does that.

I think you are seeing the file creation date and not the photo's date.

http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/exif_data.html notes how to read the EXIF data. I believe this might be a column in finder or an addon.

the EXIF data on all shots over the course of a year all read Tuesday Jan 29th 9:03 am.

any other input on preserving the dates on backup?

That EXIF data is not touched when I use finder to move the files. I wonder if you should use finder.

The link you posted only shows how to view the camera's info and the "Last Opened" info. Where can I find the date and time the picture was originally taken? ...not modified or created to that particular disc etc.
