Speakers wont work after I unplug my headphones

Hi,
I have windows xp and when I plug in my headphones and then decide to unplug them I can not listen to my computer unless I reboot.

Advice please, Thanks

I would certainly check to see if there is an updated audio driver for your sound card.. Such updates occasionally fix the issue.. On the other hand, after unplugging the headphones have you tried visiting the Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Volume tab/Advanced button under Speaker settings, then toggle the drop down menu away from "Desktop speakers", then back to "Desktop speakers" again, then click on "apply", then OK..

Thanks, for suggestions I will look into it. I am thinking of getting a usb headphone and that may solve the problem.

my computer is having the exact same problem but for some reason when I try to open sounds in the control panel nothing happens. I have scanned for virus's but nothings turned up and iv updated my computer and again no change. any suggestions?

And You've Updated The Sound Driver For Your Machine?

If you've done that, plus unmuted the sound from the speaker icon in the system tray, and you still have no sound, then it may be time for a new sound card.
