Computer help forum: How to get rid of porn "ads" on my computer?? URGENT!

Please try to scan your computer using the updated "Malwarebytes" and "Superanti-spyware" programs in safe mode.

First, if you haven't already, please clean out the various Temp folders on the computer.. Unfortunately, you haven't told us which version of Windows you're using or your version of Internet Explorer, but if you're using Windows XP, please open the Control Panel, double click on the "Internet Options" icon, then click on the "General" tab. Once there, in the "Browsing History" section, remove ALL files in the "Temporary Internet Files" and "Cookies" section.. If you're using another browser such as Firefox, etc., then it's also important to clear out all cookies and internet cache as well.

Next, RIGHT click on the 'Start" button, choose "Explore".. When the Windows Explorer window opens, look to the "C:\Documents and Settings\Yourusername\Local Settings\Temp folder.. Delete all files in the "Temp" folder. Next, while still in Windows Explorer, look to the "C\Windows\Temp folder and delete all files that reside in that particular "Temp" folder as well..

Next, open the Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs section and uninstall any programs that aren't supposed to be there or you don't need.

Next, use BOTH of the tools mentioned earlier in this thread AGAIN while in SAFE MODE.. Download, install, update, then run full system scans using Malwarebytes AND SuperAntispyware. (I know you've used other tools, please use both of these specifically.

Repeat the scans in Safe Mode and "normal" Windows till nothing is detected.

Does the problem also occur on Mozilla's browser?

See the link below.. I use a HOSTS file on my home and work computers.. It prevents the browser from visiting "bad" websites which are listed in the HOSTS file.

Found this thread through google. I'm having the same issues. Followed Grif's advice, still having the same problem.

Because Myspace is FULL of adware, many HOSTS files prevent it from loading correctly.. YOu may need to remove all the "myspace" entries in the HOSTS file to allow it to open.

A little research on Google shows that it's called "targeted advertising" and depending on your surfing habits, age, etc., some of the porn ads will make it to your MySpace login stuff. It's not true malware..

That said, the only way to prevent the items from showing up will be to use a HOSTS file or AdBlock program of some type..

Actually, my MySpace page is one of the few web pages that do NOT have this stuff on it. The ones I'm seeing it on are Yahoo (my mail page and news stories), AOL (when I click on a news story to read it), Facebook (as a "banner" across the top of the page) and even this page, after I hit "reply" and go to the next screen on here, at times there'll be a porn ad here.

I've been gone, have not had a chance to do the HOSTS thing, frankly it intimidates me a bit. It's all very unfamiliar to me and I'm afraid I'm going to do something wrong. I'm not a "computer" person...I work in the medical field, so this is all greek to me!
