Uninstalling weather channel

Just got my new computer in Dec. It has Vista 32/64.
Slowly been getting things back in that I wanted and now came Trillian. After the last time a few years ago installing this program that I trusted....I was very careful to uncheck the Ask Toolbar and no when I had to etc...but somehow the Weather Channel Desktop 6 got in.And some toolbar that I was able to uninstall.
The weather icon is not in my tray. And I don't see it running in the task manager. But yet when I try to uninstall it it quits and then says Could not open install.log file
I was told to download and install the same version and it would install on top of itself and have the uninstall and I could get rid of it.
But no matter where I go it says I have to get the current version. Which is 6.007 or something. Will this still work to try and install so I can get rid of this program?

But that was for Windows XP. I don't know Vista but it seems accessing MSCONFIG is different in the newer OS. The guidance here will help;

I did go into msconfig and stopped it (I hope) from starting up along with about 5 other things....I went from a computer with 26-30 items running to this one that has from 68-75....I was about to panic.....lol....
Guess I will try installing the newest version since I can't get the one that is already installed and hope that they put in the means to uninstall it.....

I downloaded the weather channel again and the newest version did not install the file needed to uninstall it either. I am not comfortable going into the registry unless I have very clear instructions....

There has to be a way to get rid of it. I am so mad because when I installed Trillian I unchecked and read things very carefully and it still installed things other than trillian.....They say to not get that other software we have to pay for their program. I will only pay for something that treats me fair...and this isn't fair....or even nice.

The hard way

In that case then your best bet is to uninstall it the hard way.

It isn't uninstalling, but instead deleting all reference to it off the hard drive. Make sure that MSCONFIG hasn't added new entries or re-enabled old ones, then use your search function to find all Weather Channel folders and files.

It isn't ideal and it probably won't delete all files installed, as many will have been installed elsewhere, eg the Windows\System32 folder, (or the Vista equivalent). But it is effective and final.
