Display looks "Stretched", cannot fix.

Recently something changed with my monitor display. It works, but everything i view looks vertically "stretched" in some way, rather like an odd resolution issue.

I don't remember changing any settings with anything. However, I've adjusted my resolution, adjusted DPI settings, downloaded new video card drivers, readjusted my monitor settings, even reformatted my hard drive and bought a new video card, but to no avail.

As my monitor still displays everything (color, etc.) i feel like its probably something with the computer, but it might be the monitor. Any ideas of what the problem could be and/or how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

What size is your monitor screen and what screen resolution are you using? The native resolution for you monitor should preven the issue you're seeing.. Unfortunately, some video cards don't support certain types of screen resolutions, particular when wide screens are used.

my resolution is set at 1028x768. My monitor is a 17". This i believe is the default, and i've tinkered with various settings but can't seem to fix it.

Depends On Whether It's Wide Screen Or Not..

Yes, a 17 inch "rectangular" screen has a default resolution of 1028x768... But if it's a newer widescreen monitor, the default is probably 1440x900 or possibly 1280x720.. A number of older graphics cards aren't able to support the 1440x900 resolution..

Which type do you have?

And more importantly, did THIS monitor work correctly before or is it a new monitor?

Rectangular monitor, and yeah it was working fine before. Didn't make any significant changes to anything (other than RAM a few weeks before) and one day when i turned it on it just looked different. I figure ill either get a new monitor (or borrow one) and see if that helps. Its not unbearable, so i could deal with it, its just really annoying, and starts "bugging out" my eyes after a bit.

You also mention that you made some changes to the settings but it is unclear whether those settings were changed via driver software or possible through the monitor's own "push button" menu driven methods. Again, knowing the actual make and model of the monitor would be beneficial.

Before Buying A New Monitor...

..try swapping in a known "good" monitor of the same size and type.. If the swapped monitor fixes the issue, then yes, a new monitor is a good idea.. On the other hand, if the swapped monitor doesn't fix the issue, it may be time for a new graphics card.

No need to spend more money than needed.
