Ethernet Port Lights

If anyone could help me that would be much appreciated. Well my concern is that my ethernet port ligths on my laptop are not coming on at all when I hookup a ethernet cable to it. I have no connection to the net whatsoever. I only get it wireless while at home, but I bring my laptop to work alot and I want to hook it up with the cable and I still don't get any connection at all. I have never used the ethernet port before, only wireless. If anyone could help me, please get back to me asap. I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S331, just let me know what else you need to help me with my issue.

A LAN setting in the BIOS. It can be set to disabled. Also many home users don't want Windows to tell them the ethernet cable is unplugged and we'll disable that via bios or other methods. Think about who you asked to turn that off.
