A script is something in the page. In this case, FF thinks it takes too long. We don't know the page, we don't know the script and we don't know how long it takes, so it's difficult to comment.

What happens if you use IE to view these same pages?

A script is a program that is included in a webpage. It's written in a language called Javascript (or Ecmascript, but that's the same).

Please give a detailed instruction on how a member can reproduces this same message on his computer. That's the only way to comment on the cause.
My first impression: it's a bad script. Ask the webmaster of the site why he writes such. But it could be it just loops because you're blocking another scripts it needs from another site, and then it's your problem.

I started getting "unresponsive script error" when trying to log into Cnet forum amongst other sites after I upgraded FF2.x to FF 3.05 on my old winXP computer

In my case this turned out to be caused by Firefox add-on "Extended Cookie Manager" . This extension worked great on FF 2.x , but on my PC was totally incompatible with FF 3.x
