Computer help forum: Helpppppppppp!! New computer

Please follow the steps below:

First, ,,,,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from the link below:

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

And IF you are not able to download these tools on your machine, please use a friend or family member's computer and download the Malwarebytes tool and it's manual update from the link below.. Once downloaded, rename the program installer "mbam-setup.exe" file to something else like "Gogetum.exe", then copy the installer file and the update file to a CD or flash drive.. Transfer the file to the problem machine, then install the "Gogetum.exe" file, then run the update to get the program current.. After that, run a full system scan and delete anything it finds.

...and they are a common ruse to get you to install and pay for "rogue" antispyware programs..

To check and adjust your Security Alerts, open the Control Panel, then double click on the "Security Center" icon. When that loads, on the left side of the window, click on the "Change the way Security Center alerts me". You'll see three sections that can be UNCHECKED if you want the "true" Windows security alerts to stop. If you want them to continue, leave them checked..

Antivirus compared to antivirus

Antispyware compared to Antispyware.

If you like Norton, then keep it.. But recognize that it uses more memory/resources than many other antivirus programs like AVG, which is free. AVG is a good tool. But Norton may have a whole "suite" of tools included in it's package, depending on which version you have. You may, or may not like "suites" of programs.

As to antispyware tools, recognize they detect DIFFERENT types of malware from antivirus scanners.You'll want to have both. Antispyware tools are better at detecting various types of advertising programs, rogue scanners, and trojans. Windows Defender is an antispyware tool and isn't bad, but isn't among the best either, yet, it does provide "real time" scanning for free.. The tools I recommended earlier, in my opinion, are among the best free scanning tools "at this moment" but they may not provide real-time scanning in their "free" option.. The "best" tools change.. Ad-Aware used to be one of those "best" tools.. Now, in my opinion, it is not..
