BIOS will not recognize external hard drive

I have an ASUS P5KC MB and am running two internal SATA hard drives in JOBD configuration. I replaced a WD Crossfire external hard drive which was working fine on FIRE WIRE, with a WD home edition MY BOOK external hard drive. The new drive works fine on USB and FIREWIRE but when I try to access it on eSATA, the drive is not recognized. I have tried every BIOS configuration but the system still will not recognize the new external hard drive.

I would appreciate any help in getting the system to recognize the HD in eSATA configuration.

I finally found the problem to be in the MB drivers. The drivers will only set the external eSATA port to a RAID configuration and will not allow JBOD configuration which is what I need. I will have to be content to use FIRE WIRE to connect the external drive.

eSATA Drive not recognized...SATA can only work in Raid Mode

I have a WD My Book Home Edition connected to a Silicon Image Controller.
The Drive is sometimes recognized, sometimes not!...
It seems that to have it recognized for sure, 2 successive boots are required!
I have not yet solved the problem but pls note:

- Upon boot I see the message: "Press F4 to enter RAID Utility" (not tried yet). It would be worthwhile to see what is this utility for
- It might be necessary to re-configure the Computer Bios!..
- There exists a "Serial ATA Windows IDE Driver", which maybe would allow a correct functioning out of Raid... have not yet tried either.

You must install the JMicron eSATA driver 4 motherboard

eSata problems in Windows can result from missing eSata drivers. These may include JMICRON driver which is needed so the OS can 'see' the eSata drive. These are available on your PC Manufacturer page or from JMicron on the web... me thinks.
