better command prompt for xp?

hey all,
i have been dabbling in linux for a while but sadly am stuck with xp for various software reasons. i am realizing more and more that the command prompt (linux shell) can be extremely useful. i know that xp has its own commands, some similar, but feel like it is very limited when compared to linux. for instance i want to copy certain columns or rows from a text file into another. linux seems to have more options...am i right? is there another way to do more with xp's command prompt?

don't confuse built-in utilities with built-in commands. you can usually find any common unix utility will have a win32 binary that you can add to xp.

Windows PowerShell

Another option, which I'm reasonably sure will work on XP, is Windows PowerShell, which is supposed to be quite nice in terms of providing a command line interface that's scriptable and basically above and beyond the basic command interpreter you normally have.

It may not have the full suite of commands like a standard Linux distribution would, and Cygwin is the only option for getting all of those that I'm aware of for Windows.
