Web pages freeze in Internet Explorer

This is happening alot, that when I open a web page it freezes or it loads and then when clicking on another search in that web page it freezes. I get the "Not Responding" on the top bar or it comes up totally blank. And when I am on a web page and got to close out, as soon as it closes another page pops up thats blank. Sometimes it stays there and I end task it, or I click real fast on the X and it closes. This is driving me nuts, keeping me from researching things online. I did a virus scan with AVG and a Adaware and Spybot. Any other suggestions?

Try the usuals.

1. See if Firefox does not freeze.
2. Uninstall all IE Add Ins.
3. Scan with http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

Firefox doesn't freeze...so possibly my IE is corrupt? How do I make it so anything I open as a webpage opens using FireFox??

Thank you again...I was ready to throw the computer out the window.....or pay someone dearly to fix.... (shrug)

I am not using IE....so do I still have to do that.... and how?

Firefox is working good..but I did read that some web sites don't work with firefox. Hopefully right now I won't be going to those...lol

Thank you for your help....I feel so stupid sometimes. I just want my computer to stay safe..and use the right spyware and adware, not sure what malware is....I just bought Registry mechanic...

internet explorer freezes

Start with running IE without addons

Right click the IE7 icon on the Desktop and select "Start without Add-ons". Alternative ways to do it are
- type iexplore -extoff in the start>run box
- find it in the start>all programs>desktop acccessories>system management

If it works OK now, use Tools>Manage addons to find the culprit.
