Local Disc (F:) ?

I recently installed a new hard drive on my system but when I was done went to My Computer it is now my F drive. Why would this have occurred. i am wanting to install the drivers for my video but they will only install on a C drive. I have already tried to change drive letters but it says that I cant. Does anybody have any other ideas? I am using an MSI board with Windows XP PRO.

Is this hard drive the one you installed Windows on or is it another? The partition containing Windows will be, by default, recognized as C:, so if this is an issue of space on the partition containing Windows you'll need to move files from C: to F: and then install the drivers to C:. On the other hand, if this is your sole hard drive being registered as F: let us know, as well as what, if anything, is being registered as C:.

What's happened is that, during the installation, Windows XP saw other valid partitions or removables and drive letter F was next in line. The way around this is to install Windows with only one hard disk present and no removables such as ZIP drives. It will then reside on C:. What I don't understand is that these drives should install to Windows folders regardless of the drive letter. But first, they will want to extract to some location and the default is generally C:\ <foldername>. Usually you can just change the drive letter and path for the extraction process if that path exists. Can you not do that? It is possible to change the boot drive to C: if that will resolve your issue. It's not a simple process and I can't walk you through it. It involves editing the registry. See if MS offers any help here

Zip drive

My Zip drive is C right now. The drivers that I want to install are for my GeForce 4 video card.
