how to remove a error message 0x80040702

i reloaded my OS ( windows 2000 pro ) and now when i try to reload my anti virus ( panda 2008 ) it stops with and error "fatal error 0x80040702" upon doing a search i found some remains of another installation of panda well i removed all of it except for two entrys and it wont allow me to remove them , says "windows is using that file . the two files are "shelltit.dll and titcfg.dll" i tryed deleting them in safe mode but that didnt get rid of them now i am scared to go vist any websites because of my lack of protection any ideas would be welcomed . i also went to regedit and tryed to remove them that way with the same results

Try Moveonboot

You select the file(S) to be removed, reboot and Moveonboot will remove them. Be careful what you select. it's a powerful program and will remove anything you select.

or why not try one of the free anti-virus utilities, like AVG Free AV. You can also try their AVG anti-spyware, also free. For a firewall, try ZoneAlarm.

You might try another program that will scan the registry and find any files that may be damaged or leftover from uninstalled programs first. Then you can safely remove them without accidentally removing something you shouldn't. It may even list the files you are getting the error from. There are a few programs that will do this and many are free and you can get them at Download.com. Here is a list to get you started:

Looks like a registry problem.

Run registry repair software.

Any more information for the error applet?
