Computer help forum: Vista sleep mode--wakes!

They may have a patch, driver or solution. At the very least you will log the issue to ease the return of the defective product.

That works fine for the sleep issue, but now that network traffic won't bring my computer out of sleep, I can't remotely access my computer's contents. I use Orb (http://www.orb.com/orb/) to remotely access; it has the ability to bring my computer out of sleep, but apparently relies upon that selection being on.

I searched long and hard to find the right answer to my problem and this fixed it. I owe many thanks and all the credit to kingofnexus @ Vista Forums, I hope he/she doesn't mind me showing it to you. My problem turned out to be in Media center (although this link addresses many other sleep issues with Vista). This is well written and easy to follow, took me less than a minute to straighten out the sleep issue after finding this post.

Nearly all sleep problems are caused by devices that are set to be able to wake the computer back up again.They can wake your computer instantly, randomly, or can cause your computer not to fully enter sleep mode and even cause it never to wake up. Advanced Users: Check the system event log. The "power-troubleshooter" source will tell you what woke it up out of sleep. If it says "Wake Source: Unknown" Its most likely to do with step 3.

Brilliant i have struggled for 6 months and this was instant, i also had to make sure that on my power options i had selected and option that had computer never shuts down. Awesome, thanks.
