hello. I have just build my self a computer. I have a 500 watt power supply, a ASUS P4P800S-X with a pentium 4 3.4 ghz processor, Cosair XMS 512mb DDR Ram, and an Nvidia e-Geforce fx 5200. I have not installed windows or the drivers for anything yet. I have everything on the back of the computer plugged in except the internet. When I turned the computer on everything on it starts but the monitor turns off (light is green when on and orange when off). How can I install drivers without a monitor? PLEASE HELP ME!

First, you must get video

during the power turn on. Basically the BIOS should perform that function. It'll use basic video drivers and it really runs in DOS.

With the mobo, the video card, CPU/HSF and memory, the front panel controls plugged into the mobo, your first screen will normally show what video card you have. If that doesn't happen, other than all the possible installation mistakes it seems that your video card isn't working.

Twould be nice if you have a floppy drive, if you did you could try using a Win 98 boot floppy, again that is really DOS and the DOS program is on the floppy. no need at that time to install an Operating System [DOS is one].

But first get that first boot screen. Do not have any drives or any other external things connected to the mobo and see if you get the first boot screen.

I tried what you have said, but the main problem here is I don't get any images on the monitor it just shuts down, no display. I have tried it on two different monitors and I have tried two different video cards a Nvidia fx 5200 128md, and a Nvidia MX 440 64mb. No matter what I do there is nothing appearing on the screen.

Did you plug in the CPU connector to the motherboard? You also need to be sure that the heatsink is secure on all four pins. After performing those checks, I would perform an out of case test.
