Computer won't upgrade from Win95 to XP Home anymore

Trying to fix my sister's computer I had to crash the hard drive on it again for cause it wouldn't start up.
(wish I came here when that happened) I crashed it and recovered it to Win95 using the recovery disc that came with it. Problem is I don't have the PIN to unlock it. So I used to solve that problem by simply wiping the hard drive clean then installing WinXP. Now the PC won't let me do that anymore. I put in those 6 disc (the ones to get the computer to read the Upgrade disc) when it ask for me to throw in the 6th one the computer just stops and nothing happens. I even left it on for 36 hours and still nothing but "please wait..." on the screen. I was wondering is there any way to fix this or should I just get a new computer cause this one is really old.

Its a Sony VIAO it was bought back in 1996. Thats as much as I know about the Computer specs. I'll try to find out more.

P.S.: I tried calling the company for the serial number to the VIAO but they gave me nothing.

That 6 floppy boot is a sign.

A bad sign that hardware is either too old or in need of repair.

The XP CD is bootable but when you find a machine that won't boot the XP CD you know to fix that since booting 6 floppies is getting tougher as the hardware ages. There's that other nutty thing that there are different boot diskettes for each XP version. Too bad Microsoft did that.

In closing, be sure to leave USB connected devices unplugged during the boot or install.

Yup, pretty much so. That's why I get the CD booting.

We've reached the day where any machine that can't boot from CD is usually not a good XP experience.

Windows 95 to Windows XP is not a supported upgrade path, nor does a license to Windows 95 make you eligible for an upgrader's edition of Windows XP. If that is indeed an upgrader's version of Windows XP and not a 'full' version that license is invalid and should refuse to install.

For some reason though the computer just stops though right on the last of 6 boot diskettes. I think its time to get another computer
