still having issues

followed the how to to a T. my system is now stripped down and i am still not getting the machine to post, it recognizes my keyboard and mouse, but nothing else, i don't have any good way to check the cpu and mobo seperately as i don't have another machine to plug these into, the video works b/c i get the message indicating that the keyboard and mouse were found.
an interesting side note that may be of some help, i now get a message indicating that the cpu fan has failed even though it spins up when i have it plugged in.
any help will be appreciated

The possibly bad part or parts.
When I hit the bottom of motherboard, CPU+HSF, PSU and speaker on a chunk of cardboard and have no beeps I swap out from the cheapest part first to the more expensive one.
