"Please wait while windows configures" Error

This is a weird one and recently popped up when I updated my Mcafee Security Suite but I don't see a relation.

My PC runs windows XP.

Whenever I click any of the buttons at the top of my Windows Explorer folders such as cutting or deleting a file, or anytime I open up Microsoft Word I get a weird message.

"Please wait while windows configures Macromedia Contribute 3" then it wants me to put the disk into my computer.

I am a little nervous to put the disk in because I do not know why Contribute needs to related to these functions (plus it means I have to wade through all my stuff to find the disk wink )

I don't really use Contribute anymore and may just remove it from my system but I would like to know what is causing this problem if anyone knows.

I appreciate any insight anybody has on this.

something has changed in your PC and contribute needs to repair itself. this behavior is not uncommon as ms office sometimes needs to repair itself after applying OS patches.

contribute links itself into the windows shell (as a context menu item) and ms office. that's why it complains when you use explorer or word. if you don't need/use contribute, uninstall it. if you do, give it the disk it wants or download the latest contribute upgrade and apply it.

Oscar, Which Version Of McAfee Security Suite..??

As of last Saturday, McAfee's released their newest Security Suite 9. If you are on their prescription service, you may have upgraded automatically to Virus Scan 11 which is included in the newest SS upgrade. Please RIGHT click on the red "M" in the lower right corner, choose "About", then "Virus Scan" and check for the "build/version" number. There have been quite a few problems with installation, etc. and I'm sure McAfee would like to hear about it if that's the issue.

Which "build" of Virus Scan are you using?

I do have the subscription service and updated Saturday and have had all sorts of problems with the newest version of McAfee. BTW I have version 10.0.27 of virus scan.
Though there seems to be a bigger problem now between McAfee's virus scan and Lavasofts Ad-Aware, but that is for another thread.

It sounds like I should just hunt down where I put that disc and let it run. Thanks for the feedback on this.

getting rid of Contribute and that annoying message

I had real trouble deleting Micromedia contribute, it seems the only way I could stop the error message was to download "windows install clean up" Then I just looked for the contribute program and removed it.
Worked a treat!
