Linksys Etherfast PCI Adapter problems

I installed a Linksys Etherfast PCI Adapter in a desktop I have had for a couple of years. It has Windows ME. Windows found the new hardware and I installed the driver. Everything looked good until I plugged in a LAN cable to try and access the Internet. I get no response, as if nothing is plugged in.

I know the cable is active as I had a laptop plugged in that worked fine. I checked Device manager and status shows "The device is working properly". The Resources show no conflicts in memory/IRQ.

I am at the end of my limited experience. Any advice would be appreciated. We will have broadband at home soon and I was trying to get this installed now at the office to be ready.

Try the internet connection wizard,

Open My Computer
Open the "C" drive
Program Files
Internet explorer
Connection wizard
icwconni.exe OR inetwiz.exe
And follow the instructions.

Tried it but no help

I tried the Internet Connection Wizard but still no help. It appears as if I get no signal. I know the cable is active because I have a laptop I plugged in. The laptop does not seem to have any special setup to access the Internet and works fine.

Anyone have any others suggestions?

Try Linksys driver

Instead of using the driver that Microsoft selects for that adapter, try downloading and installing the Windows 98/ME driver for your particular Linksys model number.

Also, does your office use automatically assigned IP addresses or do they have to be entered into each computer manually?
