Toshiba Laptop volume control

The volume control wheel on the side of my Toshiba Satellite M35X-S149 has begun to malfunction. Its either stuck or broken....so that the only way to control the volume is through the on screen volume control.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone has had experience replacing the wheeled volume control on these laptops? I haven't taken the back/bottom off yet....are there any certain precautions to take here? Thanks!

The rheostat. . .

will be soldered to a component board. The component board must be replaced.

Unless the screw that attaches the wheel to the rheostat has come loose, then you're in luck.

Successful control changed

I was asked by a friend to try to repair a Toshiba laptop's broken volume control knob. I don't know the laptop's model number but the control was on the side of the computer. I had success changing the control from the original to a replacement control from Mouser. The cost was under $10 for the part. If this helps anyone I can tell you more details. Aloha.

Volume control knob replacement tips.

Got the same broken volume wheel issue. How in gods name did you figure out where to start to find the part through the mouser web site? Is there a part # for a universal/ generic replacement wheel or something? I am ready for my next clue. Thank you. Toshiba Satellite model # PSM4OU-01R001
The wheel is on the front of this model...

how to figure out the exact mouser part?

How did you find the specific part? I would think that one of the below parts would do, but which one?

--Also, how do i rotate
the potentiometer dial in the above parts? is there an attached wheel or do i have to
