How many hours of video fit on a DVD at Mpeg-2?

Any idea? i barely get 1, and my DVDs advertise for 2....

It's a quality setting in its menu. I found 6 hours to be slightly worse than a VCR whereas 4 hours is very nice compared to the old VCR.

While it may be possible to get out to 10 or more hours, I'll stick to "6 hours" since I can do that here and now.

As Robert alluded to, it depends on the quality settings you're using. Higher quality means more space is needed, so less time per disc.

Technically, DVDs have a fixed bitrate that they use, and so not all players will accept anything else.

About that fixed bitrate.

I can enable a display of bitrate on my Philips DVD player. The bitrate is not fixed and I've seen lower and higher numbers.

Why is that?

Ok so anyone know where i can change the bitrate? i use ulead video studio editor, by the way, so any users familiar with the program might be able to help....thanks in advance!

I have DVD MovieFactory and something else. But the rate is changeable. Keep looking.
