screen display off center during boot

Using Win XP home, sp2
Motherboard Name MSI KM2M Combo (MS-6738) (3 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 SDR DIMM, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video)
Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8375 ProSavageDDR KM266
CPU Type AMD Athlon, 1333 MHz (10 x 133)
BIOS Type Award (04/18/03)
System Memory 512 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)



Installed Samsung SyncMaster 914v, 19 inch LCD monitor a few weeks ago.

When I boot, the FIRST screen that shows up has text pushed too far left to read. (about 2 inches of text hidden on left side)
On previous 19 inch CRT monitor, this did not happen.

When booting is complete, the screen is centered properly.

Any ideas what is causing this and can it be corrected?

This would only happen if you have a non-DVI monitor or are using a non-DVI connection. The solution is a simple one however. The monitor should have some sort of an auto-adjust feature which you probably ran when you first connected it to your desktop and got the OS fully booted. All you have to do is just run it during the initial bootup stages, and it should remember the settings from then on.

The other solution, which is a considerably better one, is use a DVI connection if at all possible. LCD monitors are digital, and video cards produce a digital signal. Using a SVGA cable, which is analog, not only produces these problems, but degrades quality due to the multiple analog to digital conversions. If your monitor and video card support DVI, use it. If the monitor supports it, and the video card doesn't, it might be worth getting a video card that does.
