Random Bios Boot :(

by io - 3/4/04 12:22 AM

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this rather irratating problem. I aint touched the insides of my computer for 14 months and its just been used randomly (always on 24/7)

Yesterday i had a problem where my computer wouldnt restart.

So.

Windows > Shutdown > Turn On, No POST Beep (if thats what its called).

To me i thought the bios was dead or summit as the power works, it just dont do nothing, (cd roms spinning, keyboard works etc) Around after 50 restarts doing everything i can think of, it eventually booted up saying i installed a new CPU. Obviously i didnt but that didnt stop it asking me to set the speed. I chose 1733. The problem is, it restarts after this and goes dead again, or it did for another 40 restarts. Now, the hardware cant be too messed up as i randomly got it working. ie im typing on the comp in question. I thought it was a once off but its not as in the last 14 hours i have attempted to restart the system around 200 times and i have had around 6 "choose cpu speed" and 3 normal boot ups.

Motherboards have always been over my head so god knows whats wrong here.

So the fan kicks in, the powers on, the hard drive is working away, the cd rom and dvd rom drives are spinning away happily, the keyboard sometimes desides to blank me, however, my monitor stays on standby.

This is really strange as im using the computer as i have for the last 14 months, just to do stuff like write this and as you can see its working, it just seems to be givin me problms for the fun of it

:o(!!!

Any help you could give me would be really helpful :o)

Im going to look into flashing the bios but im clueless.

AMD Athlon 2200+
GForce 4600 ti
1024 MB DRR
A7V333 Asus Motherboard
Mitubishi Diamond Plus 9358 19"
SB Audigy 5.1

And thats pretty much all i can think of to write :o)

Thanks!

Clarky.
