Computer newbies forum: Outlook Express 6 - Can't print email

....Open Internet Explorer, then click on "View" in the upper left corner, select "Encoding" from the menu, then click on "Auto Select" to UNCHECK it.

Now open Outlook Express and see if it cured the printing issue.

Make sure you have the printer software so you can reinstall it after uninstalling. Start by opening the Control Panel, then see if there is any printer software listed there. If there is, remove the software from that location. Then open the "Printer" folder and "Delete" the printer, (if it's still there) by RIGHT clicking on the printer, choose "Delete". Unplug the printer from the back of the computer, restart the computer, then reinstall the printer per the instructions in the printer manual.

When you open Outlook Express and have the e-mail message open, try clicking on "View", choose "Encoding", select "More", then click on "Unicode(UTF-8). Now try printing. Use the "File", "Print" method of printing instead of clicking on the "Print" button.

Just making sure here...You mentioned Outlook Express 6 but haven't mentioned your version of Internet Explorer...Are you using Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 ??..If you aren't at Service Pack 1, please install it as it fixes a number of problems.:

If IE 6 SP1 is already installed, have you tried "repairing" it? Open the Control Panel, double click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon, then locate and highlight the Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools" listing. Click on the "Remove" button and a small window will load. Select the option to "Repair" and follow the prompts to repair IE 6 SP1.

Whenever posting questions on these forums, please give us as much information as possible about your computer. In your case, we certainly need the operating system, the EXACt verson of the program you're using when you get the error, your Internet Explorer version, and any things you have done to fix the issue. The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.

Have you tried disabling the Script Debugger in Internet Explorer? Open the Control Panel, double click on "Internet Options" icon, then click on the "Advanced" tab. When that opens, place a CHECK mark in the boxes next to "Disable Script Debugging". Click on "apply", then OK.

Please try installing the newest version of the Windows Script Engine from the appropriate operating system link below:

Which version of Internet Explorer do you have installed?

Although the error at the link below isn't identical, it could be the fix to your issue.

Grif, Thank you for your suggestions. IE 6 SP1 was displayed as installed but when I tried to repair, the error was "unable to repair 5.5". Downloaded IE 6 SP1 again but had the same error message when I tried to repair. Have also downloaded and used the spyware you recommended. The error still persists. Will installing Firefox mean we would no longer use I E or will we have a choice?
Also (& I don't know whether this is a connected problem) I am unable to play sound from the web or from my CD player. Volume does exist because I have the Compaq welcome music!

I am unable to follow the link you suggest, my computer "freezes" each time I try. Also I am unable to play CD's getting a similar script error, could they be linked?
