Essential Knowledge for I.T.

I've generated a interest in the I.T. field, and I have a few questions to ask.
1. What is the essential general knowledge for I.T.? Such as knowing operational systems, diagnostic measures, analytical reasoning, and other standard and specified functions that are a requisition.
2. Since experience is like bubble gum candy for employers haha, what advice would you give for a inexperienced person that never learned the primary functions of a PC. Such as Platforms, hook ups, back up systems, and other essential coordinations?
3. And I understand that many of you have been asked this question on a routine circumstances, but which appeals to employers? A Vocational Certification Or a Educational Degree? Such as a Cerrification, A.S., and B.S., for a person under 21.
Thank You for your time and have a wonderful day.
