Computer newbies forum: need advice!!!

intelligent advice YOU need to tell exactly how you will be using the computer and the applications you will be using it for.

You also need to tell us whether you can perform repairs yourself or if you will be needing customer service for every little issue. We need that info because some manufacturer's have excellent support while others may as well not even offer support because their support is so bad.

As an example, a base line Acer netbook offers portability and works fine for accessing the Internet and sending/receiving emails and for simple word processing and a few simple spreadsheets. That same netbook would be essentially worthless for trying to play most games and for trying to work with data bases or CAD/CAM applications. It also wouldn't keep a user happy if they were doing a lot of graphics work using applications such as PhotoShop.

Since you're focusing on good graphics....have you checked out 'the display' ? If the laptop display has a matte finish, glare and reflection won't present a problem. Otherwise, the non-matte finish displays are highly reflective and depending the environment where the laptop is used, it can be very annoying.

Overall decent with the following comments...

- storage ....32GB SSD and 750GB HDD (5,400....good but slow)
- no CD-DVD-reader/burner (how will you load data on CDs/DVDs)
- 6 MBs RAM....not sure whether the system design is dual channel. If yes...the optimal config is the same volume/quantity RAM in each channel. This system comes stock with a 2GB SoDIMM and a 4GB SoDIMM
- 4 Cell Battery (limited use on battery)
- display....suspect it's not matte finish meaning glare/reflection could be problematic.
