I'd like suggestions for a new computer: Processor, memory, hard drive, windows version...Is 7 still available? Also want DVD burner, webcam, speakers.

This would be for general use: internet, email, photos, videos, Skype, MS office programs.... I still use MS 2003!

I have Windows XP on desktop Dell Dimension 5100. 3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4. I'd like an all-in-one with enough speed and memory since I've heard they can't be added later.

I've seen lots of ads, just can't decide! Money wise, I'm looking at roughly $700 or $800. Is that reasonable??

Do you want a new laptop or an new desktop, because this greatly affects the price to power ratio.

Take a look at the Dell Optiplex 7100 at this link

It's $539 as configured, but I'd opt for the 6 GB configuration which is $52 more, Windows 7 Pro with XP Mode, $22.75 more, a DVD/CD burner with 19 in 1 card reader $18.25, and anything else you might want. Office 2003 will run just fine with Windows 7.

anything on all-in-ones?

Thanks wpgwpg. I did check it out, it looks impressive.

I am really interested in an all-in-on. Anyone have any reviews on them or suggestions? I was hoping there would be some good holiday specials!!

If you're dead set on an all-in-one..just make sure you

get the total RAM, disk space, video power, etc., you need at time of purchase because upgrading and expanding are NOT features of all-in-ones.

Also make sure you really like the monitor/display because unlike a desktop or laptop, you may not be able to attach another monitor to the system.

All-in-ones are great in some ways (compact, space saving) but not so great in others (heat dissipation, user expandability or repairability, etc.,)

i think that an ultra book is great if you don't want any disk drive. i would suggest at least 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB or over for the Hard drive. most computers that are ok will cost you about $600 to $700. for what you are using it for i would suggest intel for the processor. i would heavily suggest windows 7 or xp. i would suggest either a laptop or a desktop. all in one are ok but it is important to know what you like and what you are comfortable with.
