Help please

Apologies if this has come up before. I'm selling my old desktop and read that eraser was the best program to clean it up etc so I downloaded and ran eraser but now I cannot boot my computer.Ive no boot cd and tried everything I could to even start in safe mode etc but have no luck. I'm a novice computer user so bear with me please.

My advice. Install Ubuntu and move it out.

I find folk spend a lot of time and money restoring Windows when they've lost the media or wiped the drive. Install Ubuntu and move it out.

I "acquired" a recovery disc and all's well again grin so thanks for the help and advice, great website.

So now you have to sell a PC without OS. That means the buyer will have to put his own OS on it. If he prefers Linux he would have done it anyway, so it's a minor issue.

But - unless it's a very nice, new, fast model (you didn't tell) - it won't be worth the money to buy a retail version of Windows 7 or 8, so you somewhat limited the number of potential buyers of your PC when removing the OS.

So this "eraser" program removed the OS???? the desktop is old and slow (kinda like myself)

Likely. But to be sure, you would have to tell what exactly that program was (for example, the webpage you downloaded it from).

The value of old and slow desktops is nearly zero. That's about the same as the value of an old desktop without OS. So you didn't lose any money to speak of.
It might be time to bring it to the recycling.
