Looking for compatible mouse / board for Win95 HP

Have an older (circa 2000 HP Pavilion) but not the mouse / keyboard I used back then. Interested in retrieving some files etc.
HP has PS/2 ports for mouse and board. Would I be able to simply go out and purchase any standard USB mouse and keyboard and use adapters or am I better off trying to find a PS/2 keyboard / mouse themselves? Should the adapters match the colors of each port?

But why not pull the hard drive and put it in some USB case or cable?

Robert provided a good link to review on another forum here to bypass the need for PS/2.

FYI- PS/2 devices need not be color coded, though if you buy such, they will follow the color code. Understand, some PS/2 items didn't use color coding at all until later. Besides the color code, HP may also provide on the decal for PS/2 p[ort being used a depicted mouse or kybd. symbol.
