Computer newbies forum: Bootable Jump Drive

By bootable, you mean something that will continue the process of starting the system (no info here; computer, etc.) once the BIOS or hardware check is completed?

What do you want to boot?

What operating system?

Using an USB flash or storage drive?

What media would be used to install the bootable partition? Where would you get it?

Lot of questions, no information. Only guesses. Guesses don't work.

I downloaded HP Mi Restore Image Creator for my XP OS system to a USB jump drive, but it is not bootable. When I put it into the port it does nothing when I press F10 and ask to boot from the jump drive. I want to restore the mini to factory settings. I had an earlier post some weeks ago, because the wireless internet has been disabled and I am unable to fix that problem, so that is why I want to restore it. I want to make a Bootable USB jump drive.

Understand, you can't use just any flash drive. The flash drive itself has to be "bootable capable". NOT be bootable because you did use the s/w that boots what you need. I hope you realize you need to verify that the flash drive you're using, check it's manufacturer specs of that bootable capacity. If it is capable, you can then use the restore image s/w to make the required bootable partition for its use, to be 100% ready. The manual clearly explains this in the HP110 restore process. The manual also provided you did now have a bootable flash drive that the restore process will take hrs. to complete, so be patient.

Can I do it through Ebay? or what is my best option?

My choice, however, would be to go to a local office supply store (Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc) Tell them what you want and pick from the choices offered. A USB flash drive of the size stated or larger is not hard to find, nowadays, and fairly inexpensive.

While the manual states the use of a 2Gb flash drive, that maybe somehow hard to find, though it can be had. More than likely the sale of 4Gb flash drives are more available. I also suggest you don't get anything bigger as that may pose a problem for older PCs, HP110 included. You simply have to read the specs on the package or sale website for bootable(wording varies) ability, it will be listed. Just visit any of the popular flash drive makers for such info. I've good success with Kingston, PNY and Toshiba brands, you pick and decide on anything else.
