Drivers for CD-ROM & DVD-ROM

HI all, do CDROM and DVDRom actually have drivers or are they never updatedd. All I have ever seen on my PC is drivere date 7/1/2001. I have googled and never been able to find a driver update. I have found "OEM firmware" and not knowing what that is, I have never downloaded it. Are these updates important and should I download?? Thanks a million for any info you can provide me with.

Windows Already Installs Any Drivers For DVD/CD-ROM Drives

There should be no reason to update them or add anything new unless you're having problems. (When a new DVD/CD drive is installed on a computer, Windows should automatically install the driver which recognizes the drive and allows it to run.). And although updated firmware is occasionally needed for specific reasons, (which updates the internal software of hardware), treat it much the same way.. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Never found a need to update those.

The thing about drivers is they are not in need of updates when they work. For CD/DVD these are supplied by Microsoft as part of the OS.

I'd look elsewhere for trouble.

and manufacturer's of the drives do not, as a rule, supply them. As you mentioned, there are firmware updates occasionally to some. The general rule for these is, if you're not experiencing problems or the fix is not relevant to what you do, you don't bother flashing the device. It's actually possible to kill the thing if the update goes wrong.
