Best Version of FireFox for older Win XP-SP3?

I'm still a "dummie" and you guys have always been a great help! Just switched over to a new(er) system: Dell 8400, Win XP-SP3, 500gb HD, 3gb RAM; Pentium4 (put my old HD inside too).
Need to download some programs that my tech guy didn't - so - please: What's The Best Version of FireFox for my system? I've read all your reviews! I realize FF has multiple rapid-release versions (now up to v10, right?), but I just need one that's stable & not too fancy (not too 'minimalist' Chrome-looking either!). I have no mobile devices & don't need dozens of tabs open. I was thinking of doing ver-4. Wha'd'ya think? Simple is best. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Older versions may have known exploits that were not patched. So use the latest.

I'm Using FF 10.0.2 Which Is The Latest...

...on all our XP SP3 machines. Most have only 1 GB of RAM... . It works fine and all the known "holes" are plugged.

Just my opinion...

On your recommendation, I'll go for the latest.
Sounds stable & secure, and I've got plenty of RAM.
Thanks to my IT friend, who built the system for me... I'm whizzing along!

Definitely update it to the latest version. I have a PC running Win XP - SP3 and I use the latest version and make sure to apply all updates. I have no issues whatsoever. I also find that using Firefox is much quicker for me. I also have the latest versions of Chrome, IE, and Safari on my PC.

FF Version 16 Hangs UP

I tried the advice to use the latest version of Firefox which is currently 16.0.2 I tried uninstalling and reinstalling three times and have concluded it is not friendly with WinXP. I then downloaded version 12 and it works fine with all my add-ons. When I use vers 16, it hangs on opening the first tabbed address and will not allow a new tab or even closing the current tab. I waited 5 minutes and it still was hung up.

No problems with version 12.

Well, We're Running 16.0.2 On Lots Of XP's Here...

All XP computers here have Service Pack 3 installed and although some have fairly old processors, they all have 1 GB of RAM.. No real problems running Firefox.. In our situation though, we don't run any special add-ons except for typical plugins like Adobe Reader, Flash, Java and a couple of media players..

As stated in the topic, we're running it fine.
