Why doesn't game appear on TV via laptop?

I have

Macbook Pro 4,1 w/OS 10.6.8, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

laptop is connected via

USB 2.0 to HDMI Audio Video 1080P Adapter for Macbook purchased from CableMatters

to

Panasonic (couple years old) HDTV

With this connect we can watch streaming video with only a very tiny lag. If we put in a game like Dragon Age Origins or Civilization Warlords, the startup picture appears on the screen but as soon as the game actually loads the screen goes black.

Any ideas why?

My only assumption on this would be that when using the usb to hdmi connector it does not support the resolution applied to the game. Have you tried and going into the game settings and turning the resolution down or up? I know with my tv I run a HP dv7 laptop with an HDMI connector to my tv. If I turn down the rez from 1600 x 900 to lets say 800x600 than it will take the screen down and turn black. I would test that out and see if changing that will help at all. Other wise i would invest in a vga to hdmi or dvi to hdmi if that is an option because you are not going to want that lag when your gamming, it will **** you off trust me. Good Luck!!!!
