New Online Gaming PC Purchase

I'm buying a new PC and wanted to know which would be better for online gaming (WOW,LOTR,D&D) I have 2 options for computers.

1. # 2.8GHz AMD Phenom II X6 six-core processor 1055T
# AMD 780V/AMD SB700 chipset
# 8GB DDR2 RAM
# 1TB SATA hard drive
# DVD+/-RW optical drive
# Radeon HD 4350 silent graphics card with 512MB DDR2 VRAM and DVI/HDMI out
# Eight-channel high-definition audio CODEC


2.# 2.93GHz Intel Core i7 processor 870
# Intel H55 Express chipset
# 8GB DDR3 memory
# 1.5TB SATA II hard drive
# 10X Blu-ray player, DVD+/-RW combo drive
# ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics card with 512MB VRAM
# Eight-channel high-definition audio CODEC

I'm not to worried about the blu-ray player, but was wondering if how much a difference the 6 core is over the i7. Any help would be very appreciated.

While I might go to tomshardware.com and see if those two are on the CPU CHARTS let me add that many lament that one or another isn't there. THAT'S EASY TO FIX. Find the nearest CPU in GHz on the AMD and then if the unit is 2.6GHz you can multiple up the numbers to get what a 2.8GHz may test at.

Having said that, I would buy the i7. It's 4 cores have hyperthreading so it levels out the core challenge.

the intel cpu blows the doors off the amd cpu, but you do pay quite a bit more. i do question the video card in both of those builds tho

The CPUs aren't the key to the answer

... either CPU you mention is way serious overkill for MMOG's ... you will NEVER come close to hitting either machine's limits on the cpu.

However, as the one guy said, you should investigate your choice of video card more.

Personally, I would go with a cheaper cpu and invest any savings in a more powerful video card. I would even downgrade the cpu even lower than the ones you list ... you will never ever ever need 6 cores to play online games. Get a four-core 3-ish GHz AMD Phenom x64 and invest your savings in a truly wicked video card. I'm just sayin' is all ...
