Converting Read Only files to editable ones

I recently had a computer reformatted. The data was saved to a folder which is now on the reformatted hard drive, and is at C:\backup. But they are all Read Only files and I want to conver them to editable files.

Is there some way I can convert them all to editable files at one time, rather than have to deal with each one individually?

If I have to deal with each one individually, do I just go to Save As and change the name of the file, for example, from C:\backup\My Documents\Whatever to C:\My Documents\Whatever, that is, just by deleting the word "backup" from the file name? I say that because when I open a particular file and then click on Save, I am told it is a Read Only file and that I should save it with another file name or to another location.

defraggger keeps starting over

Display
Screen Saver
Power
Change turn off monitor and hard disks to "never".
Reset when your finished defragging

Free Program to Convert Multiple Read Only Files.

[1] First you must ''Drag/Copy'' the data file from your CD to your desktop. [I feel there is no way you can unlock the files on a CD]

After installation you will find there will be no Program ''Desktop'' Icon or any ID of the program in the ''Program Menu Index''!. You will find the program will be shown within the Right Click Dropdown Menu
To use click on your Folder/File and in the Drop Down Menu click on ''Change Attributes

Next you will have the Change Attributes program box showing = Now click on the folder File Attributes , uncheck the Read Only and if required the = ''Hidden'' = ''Archive'' = ''System'' = [They are all Grey coloured] You may have to mouse click a few times on each until the grey tick is cleared is cleared from the check box.

Next within the same folder Check the ''Recurse folders'' box and then click on the Apply button. You will then find all the files within the folder have been modified.

You're right. You can't MOVE them.

You have to copy them and then use the replies above to uncheck the read only checkbox.

How to fix "read-only" files

This works for me...
1. At the top of the screen over the words "read-only", right click your mouse
2. A drop down menu will appear with the top line being the word RESTORE.
3. Click on restore and your file is no longer read only.

I know of no way to do multiple files but this is pretty fast and easy.

I saved a file on a flash drive to restore it on another computer, I am unable it tells me it is a "rEAD FILE ONLY"

So it's on the flash drive and you want to "restore" it and then you get that says "read file only". Correct?

And please also tell:
- what type of file is it (like .jpg or .mp3)?
- how did you 'save' it on the flash drive?
- how are you trying to 'restore' it?
