Watching Blu-ray Movies my Computer

Hello,

I just finished building my first computer and have installed a Pioneer Blu-ray disk drive. When I tried to play a Blu-ray movie it wouldn't work.

I'm running Windows 7 (64bit) and I've loaded Cyberlink's BD Solution. I'm also using a nvidia GeForce Graphics Card (8400 GS, 512 MB) that I pulled from my old computer.

When the movie didn't play, I installed Cyberlink's Blu-ray Disk Advisor. On the Basic Playback tab, everything was green-lighted. On the Advanced Playback tab, everything was green-lighted except:

Hardware Dual Video Decoding Capability H.264
Hardware Dual Video Decoding Capability MPEG-2
Hardware Dual Video Decoding Capability VC-1

All three were red. What are these three and what do I need to do to watch a Blu-ray movie on my computer.

It sounds like your video card isn't up to the task.

That is an old card you have there, and it doesn't look fit to decode HD video. It's probably a good idea to buy a new card at this point (it doesn't have to be an expensive one, just one that isn't that old).

Might be the software

Try updating your Cyberlink software. There might be a compatibility problem between the Blu-ray drive and the Cyberlink software. I had the same problem with my blu-ray drive that wouldn't play blu-ray movies. I found that the problem was a glitch in Cyberlink's PowerDVD decoder. A patch file had to be downloaded from Cyberlink's website to fix the problem. You should also check to see if all the configuration settings in your Cyberlink Software is set properly, including the hardware acceleration settings.

Due to how HDCP, HDMI works and that Bluray only plays over encrypted links, your monitor must be a HDCP link of either HDMI or a select few DVI connections.

About all those acronyms. Research those you didn't recognize.

If there's no hardware decoding ...

for those codecs, you might need software decoding. Does Cyberlinks documentation or help says anything about it?
It won't harm to install K-lite codec pack from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
