Can't play videos in full screen on TV from laptop

by wesleywise - 4/15/10 2:43 PM

I hooked my laptop up to my HDTV successfully recently with a SVGA cable. Picture is great, everything works perfectly except when I try to play videos (YouTube, etc) or video game emulators in full screen on the TV. A small window plays/sounds fine but when I make it full screen on the TV it slows down drastically, the audio & video begins to skip, and the video becomes unwatchable/game unplayable. Reducing it back to a smaller size fixes the problem instantly.

When playing the video or game just on the laptop itself, it works fine in full screen mode. But when connected to the TV and blown up it wont work properly. I thought maybe my machine was too slow but Ive tried two different laptops with the same problem. Here are the machines Im running:

Gateway M320 Intel Celeron Processor 1.40GHz, 224MB Ram
&
HP Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3500+ 1.79GHz, 448MB RAM (Windows XP on both)

Only being able to play small videos on my TV from the laptop is better than nothing, but Id love to be able to play them at full screen without compromising the quality of the video or game. Can anybody help?
