memery problem

can any one help. i have 8gb of memery installed on my computer. but it sayes i can only use 3gb. i have 4 slots, 2 yellow and 2 black.
how can i use all 8gb.

compute is a quad core cpu. 6600@2.40ghz. asus psn sli computer.
2 nvida geforce 9500 gt g cards. 32-bt operating system
windows 7

Your question is well discussed. It's simple. The 32 bit system is why. There is no fix planned unless you call installing a 64 bit system a fix.

64-bit retail version of Windows 7, ask yourself why you need 8 GB in stead of 4 GB. Measuring the amount of memory used while you do your normal work is a good start.

There is no benefit to you using a 32-bit OS of any memory above 4gb. Even that is limited to usage of roughly 3.5gb or less. Its the 32-bit limits that are in play. This is well discussed at MS support webpages, go there for the gritty details. regardless, of what you find on the www search engines, there is no real fix or patch. The other pretty much nailed it, I just want to help if you feel dazed. happy Yeah, you can use a 64-bit OS and win7 is the one to do this with, IMHO. Do you have the 64-bit side of the win7 as well? Beware, drivers maybe an issue under the 64-bit install, find them first before going that route, if you choose to.

If you don't really need the memory

If you are not opening super huge documents, or pictures, or needing to edit large videos, then forget about switching over to 64bit, for now.

Going to 64bit is just going to complicate your efforts in getting drivers and other things. Many of the programs you are going to run won't even take advantage of a 64bit OS either.

So, wait for a while, until you know you need 64bit.

You can either remove half of that memory for now or leave it there (it doesn't hurt to leave it it, it just won't be "seen").
