There is no benefit to you using a 32-bit OS of any memory above 4gb. Even that is limited to usage of roughly 3.5gb or less. Its the 32-bit limits that are in play. This is well discussed at MS support webpages, go there for the gritty details. regardless, of what you find on the www search engines, there is no real fix or patch. The other pretty much nailed it, I just want to help if you feel dazed. Yeah, you can use a 64-bit OS and win7 is the one to do this with, IMHO. Do you have the 64-bit side of the win7 as well? Beware, drivers maybe an issue under the 64-bit install, find them first before going that route, if you choose to.
