No sound from Laptop to HDMI TV - no common course of action

Howdy.

Have a dell XPS M1530 with all updated drivers, running vista.
Connecting through HDMI to a Philips FlatTv.

No sound.

Have gotten it to work many times. This time, not so much.

HMDI audio is enabled and set to default. Cable is fine and tv should be fine as well. Like ive said, i have done this before and have done nothing different, but it is not working.

Side note, i have tried powering off one at a time, turning back on one at a time and plugging in, one at a time. Still nothing.

Also,
The audio levels for my HDMI works when i am playing something, so IT IS recognizing it, but it does not play through the tv.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So there you have it. What you set in Control Panel may differ in each player or application.

No,
I do not have it.

Those audio options are still the same audio options for the entire operating system.

Also,
Its not just video sound from any media player, its all sound created in windows that is not transmitting through the tv.

Please advise.

If you know the system is outputting audio, then either the TV or the cable is the problem. Cable's pretty much out unless you have serious interference near the cable.

Look in your TV's settings or manual, and make sure HDMI audio is turned on. If there isn't a setting like that, try plugging it into another HDMI port. Does the TV have a 3.5 mm minijack input that says "HDMI Audio" or "HDMI/[Other Input]" on it?

Resetting the tv??

The cable is fine.
It's gotta be something with the tv. But theres nothing in the menu for an audio option.

The deal with this tv is this;
Im in a hotel and they have it hooked up to a box on the back which is for the PPV. The trick with these set ups is to unplug the phone cable from the box so that you can access the tv like you would normally.

The HDMI cable is plugged from the tv to the box, which i of course unplug and connect to my laptop.

Usually, thats all that i need to do.
I have tried the other HDMI port, but still nothing.

Does anyone have any info on this brand of tv "PHILIPS FLATTV" on how to possibly reset it to default or find a menu option for the audio??

This Actually Might Work

Ok... i almost gave up but before i did i was messing with stuff. I got into the HDMI output properties from there i went to advanced and had to change the "Default Format" to the lowest. For me it was 16 bit or FM Radio quality. Dont know how or why this works but as i type i have music playing off of my Sony Bravia.
