Computer newbies forum: Why do i need quicktime player?

The VLC Player should play all the common videos that you want as long as you've saved them to your desktop.. (There are a few file types which it doesn't support but it does a good job on most.) Still, there will be a few occasions when anything you use won't cover everything.. Specifically, some website links try to get a specific player to play the audio video files.. Personally, I have quite a few players installed.. Each type of codec is then covered and I don't have issues.

you will need quicktime player to play quicktime movies. quicktime movie files are mov files.
to download quicktime go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime

You don't need either player. Do a Google search for Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative.

These are both smaller and faster to start - you don't need them in your Windows Startup, just use them as required.

Personally, I hate the quicktime player-it takes too long to load, and takes even longer to load quicktime movies (.mov extension). However, the quicktime player is bundled with ITUNES if you're copying mp3 and mp4 sound files to IPODs. Personally, I use RealPlayer to listen to .mov files.
