Computer newbies forum: How to connect Laptop to TV?

consulting the laptop user manual and see what output (video) connections it has. Post that, or (if you lost the manual) post the make and model, so that somebody here can go searching on the manufacturers site for the information (but you could do that yourself also, couldn't you?).

The next question would be what you would want to look at at the TV? Just the desktop might be a little boring after a while.

And, finally, it would help to know what kind of TV it is and what connections it has: just SCART and analog (antenna) or a whole range of digital connections?

Model Name: Toshiba Equium M40X-189

1. Find the manual of your laptop.
2. Find the manual of your TV.
3. Decide on the right interface to use (VGA, DVI, HDMI, composite video, component video), given the option your laptop and your TV have.
4. Find the right cable for your choice.
5. Activate the right settings on your laptop so it works on an external monitor with that cable and any non-TV monitor that has the same interface.
6. Activate the right settings on the TV so it accepts the signal like the monitor that.
7. Ready.

S-cable doesn't provide the best quality. If possible HDMI/VGA/DVI is the way to go.
