I recently formatted my notebook from Windows XP to XP Pro and in the process of reloading my drivers, the Multimedia Audio Controller had an explanation mark next to it in Device Manager. I tried to update the driver via Device Manager. It didn't update unfortunately. Then, I went to the Gateway driver page for my notebook; I currently have all of the drivers installed that they provide. Then I moved on to the driverguide website. I found the correct drivers for my notebook. It has a motherboard or onboard sound card called the AC'97 2.3 made by Realtek. I then went over to Realtek's website/driver page. I installed the correct driver, and this removed the yellow question mark next to Multimedia Audio Controller. Under sound, video, and game controllers in the Device Manager, I see, Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Drivers, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs, and Realtek AC'97 Audio. The Realtek icon has a yellow question mark on it, none of the others do. I then tried to update the driver for just that specific icon. It didn't work (cannot install/find this driver message). Lastly, I have noticed that in the Device Manager, none of the Sound, video, or game controller properties have a location, they all say unknown. Does anybody have a solution to the yellow question mark for this specific driver??
Or how to get my sound card working in general with or without this driver??!!!
