Whenever posting questions on these forums, please give us as much information as possible about your computer. Depending on your issue, we might need the operating system, processor speed, amount of RAM installed, brand name of the computer, plus any other information you think might be helpfu. The more information you give us, the better informed our answer will be.

In the meantime, because this particular error can be caused by spyware or viruses, please click on the first link below and run the free online scan that it provides. Below that are two links to free spyware removal tools. Please download them, install them, update them from within their user interface, then run them and delete all spyware that is found. BE AWARE, some "freeware" programs, such as KaZaa, may cease to function if they are dependent on the spyware to run. Still, it's safer to find new "freeware" than to continue with the spyware:

Although there aren't any guarantees here, read the link below and you'll see the location of the "A.exe" file you have indicated.

Note the instructions for removal indicate to temporarily disable System Restore, restart the computer into Safe Mode, then run a full system scan with your up-to-date antivirus. If the antivirus doesn't detect it, then you may need to remove it manually using the instructions in the link above to delete the file while in Safe Mode, then clean out the registry entries indicated.

Note that there are other files you should look for like:

a.bat
a.com
a.pif
a.scr
a.sys

1. The file Rundll32.dll is used by some applications to run parts of other applications and therefore doesn't necessarily correspond with any particular error. However, the following two circumstances relate to this file, [Q138835]:

a. If an error message such as, Rundll32 - This program has caused an illegal operation and will be shut down, it could be caused by a missing entry in the System.ini file. Using a text editor such as Notepad to edit the file, look for the line that starts with drivers= in the [boot] section. If mmsystem.dll isn't specified on the right side of the equals sign, add it. If the error continues, try removing all other drivers from the line until mmsystem.dll is alone. Make sure to make a backup of System.ini before editing.

b. If the Close Program window reports Rundll32.dll (not responding), end the task, and try whatever it was you were doing again. This has been known to happen when a modem fails while trying to connect to another computer using Dial-Up Networking -- which is another problem all in itself.

There is some PEST going around that causes OE to not show the email contents. It may have a name, but I haven't found it yet.

The post above shows a method I've used to cure a number of IE/OE ills. It seems a little extreme to some, but success rates are nearly 100%. For the case it didn't work, the virus and trojan damage was severe that we only tried it since the next step was to start all over.

Fair Warning! -> TURN OFF the preview in OE and leave it off. NEVER open an email that you don't know who its from. In fact, just delete all except what you expect to receive.
