biruot, Do a file search for Sndvol32.exe. There should be a copy in your C:\Windows\System32 folder and also in your C:\Windows\System32\dllcache folder. Post back what you find. You may first have to go into Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab and set it to "Show hidden files and folders" and also uncheck "Hide Protected operating system files", click Apply/OK

biruot, Since the only copy of SNDVOL32.EXE you found was in the prefetch folder and you have no Windows XP CD do the following. Go to the link below and download sndvol32.exe and save it somewhere you can locate it then place it or copy it to your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Then go to your Control Panel, and open up ''Sounds and audio devices'', under the ''Volume'' tab, check the box next to where it says ''Place volume icon in the taskbar'',click ''Apply/OK'' and your volume icon should be back in the Notification area aside of your clock.
