DVD/CD-ROM Drive Doesn't Read

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop running Windows XP that is only about 4 months old. The DVD/CD-ROM drive has stopped reading music and game CDs and DVDs. The error message I get says that Windows cannot read the disk because it may be corrupted or using an incompatible format. I don't think thats the case since it has been reading everything before. I have not tried to load any programs and I have reloaded the driver for it. I have cleaned disks and tried several different CDs but none are being read. Will someone please tell me all I have to do is buy one of those lens cleaners for my DVD drive. Thanks.

Do you have iTunes?

I had the same problem. Turns out iTunes was causing the problem. Soon as I uninstalled it, the drive worked.

Unfortunately, I'm still trying to find an answer as to exactly why, but for now, iTunes is out of my laptop.

I don't have iTunes. But I checked the add/remove programs to be sure.

DVD/CD Drive!!!

Hey guys
Im not sure why but my pc wont read my dvd's or cd's i have a dvd/cd burner and it burnt and read files fine a while ago but now it wont even boot from cd-rom at start so i can format. There is a dvd drive in my computer but when i double click on it it wont open the cd and it ask's for me to insert a cd what can i do???
