Connecting DVD Player to Laptop

I was wondering is there any way that I can connect my DVD player to my laptop?

Play a movie?
Supply power to the DVD player so it runs off the laptop battery?

ATI and other companies make both PC-Card and USB TV/Capture cards so you can connect the DVD video output and watch the content.

However, an USB 2.0 DVD drive could be about the same amount of dollars so price it out first. Also noteworthy is that for under 89 bucks (I paid that much and it is now cheaper) I replaced my laptop's internal drive with a nice DVD/CDRW drive.

Thank you for the advice. happy My laptop actually has a DVD/CDRW Drive but I think it may need replacing. It has difficulty handling certain DVDs. Although it will play them the drive gets overheated and makes a rumbling noise. But those DVDs work fine on my DVD players. The DVDs that give it a hard time are non-region encoded and they are DVD-Rom compatible so I don't know what the problem could be.

1. A CD/DVD lens cleaner thing. Sometimes helps.
2. How long has it been since you dusted the laptop internals out? Many never have.

3. Again, some external DVD drive on USB 2.0 could be cheaper...
