Netgear wnr2000 cannot install with cd on windows 8

Hello, I am currently trying to get my old netgear wireless router working on my new laptop, I cannot get past the installation cd "welcome" because it says something like supports window. xp, or vista ...I dont have any manual I barely found the cd lol, I am lost now, I dont want to go downloading drivers I dont understand any of that stuff, and yes I had it on another laptop, but it always said "aquiring network address" possibly because the LT was fixed numerous times, I just am lost

And when this happens we forget the CD and use the router's web page interface to set it up.

About the network address. That is not something I've used the router CD to fix. It's always been something else to configure or fix.

If you don't understand any of this stuff, you learn more or have others set it up for you.

Did you ask Netgear if they issued a new Windows 8 compatible CD? They really don't have to since the web page setup still works here (I had a wnr2000 until last year.)

ok so toss the installation disk, than I go to what webpage? Im not concerned about the old laptop its junk, that was the one that I had a problem with "aquiring network address" so I went back to landline 2 yrs ago, & I have no one to go to for setup, my husband is not computer man, he can turn one on thats about it

http://documentation.netgear.com/wnr2000/enu/202-10397-01/wnr2000-03-3.html notes how to get to the web page of the router. But if this is not a wired connection they may struggle as they have to get connected first.

There's a reason we use the wired connection to set it up.

I login the router in at routerlogin.net and I was able to find all my info it also gave me the updated version, which I need to down load still, but I am connected now and on the new laptop wireless connection is up & running, the login page also helped me with my long forgotten passphrase as well killed two birds one stone, thanks again Bob

My newest Netgear 3800 dropped WiFi connection like a bad juggler until I installed an older version. This was talked about in some Netgear forums and saved me from returning the router.

If you can't find anything broken and it works, don't fix it?

it was "recommended" that you update but if my stuff is working properly and efficiently I think Ill pass for now, I don't like anything that says zipped file un stuff first or un zip required, that scares me lol, I was always told not to mess with those kind of download files
